Housed in the old Woodward and Lothrop Department Store, N&R preserved important architectural elements from the building’s past, including two elevators and Tennessee marble floors. The original facade was retained, while the grand cast iron staircase at the entry mezzanine was refinished with new blackened steel and glass details creating a dramatic double height space. Elements from the original concept for West Elm such as the industrial “window” chair display wall were seamlessly integrated with historic elements.
