News and Gourmet at The Breakers

In reimagining the Breakers’ News and Gourmet shop as a relaxed Mediterranean cafe experience, we selected a breezy, light palette of materials and details - fresh white plaster walls and arches, light limestone floors, and bleached timber framed ceilings. Display fixtures in light bronze, pale gray marble, ribbed glass, terrazzo and bleached oak house a curated product selection of gifts and essentials. Embedded within the shop is a fully equipped terrazzo coffee bar offering artisanal coffees, fresh pastries and sandwiches, gourmet items and cool glossies and newspapers.
It was important spatially to maximize views out to the surrounding lush vegetation, and also allow light and views into the shop. To achieve this, we eliminated four existing interior columns, and opened all the display windows. It’s far more light, open, and visible than the present shop and will definitely be the daily go-to place at The Breakers.
