VMSD Retail Renovation Awards

MNA awarded with two first place prizes at the 2014 VMSD Retail Renovation Awards.

The annual VMSD Retail Renovation Awards recognizes store renovation and conversion projects in the retail sector from the past calendar year. This year, MNA was awarded with two first place prizes for both Patagonia, Meatpacking and Lucky Brand, Beverly Hills.

At Patagonia, Meatpacking, MNA conducted extensive research of historical archives and the neighborhood’s building and period materials to provide an authentic space to match the historic building facade. The jury, comprising of industry practitioners including retailers, store planners, architects, construction firm, project managers and the editors of VMSD, recognized the vast transformation of the space from its original white box state. Judge Tom Kowalski, VP of Design at Interbrand Design Forum described the project: “They had a blank canvas within a new shell, but made it appear as if a vintage space was retrofitted.” The project’s use of materials and products that were local and true to the neighborhood impressed the jury.

At Lucky Brand, Beverly Hills, MNA’s use of discovered building elements impressed the jury. Utilizing the store’s existing metal beam infrastructure, a mansard ceiling was designed to accommodate new duct work. A hidden skylight was also discovered and incorporated into the design creating an openness to the environment. The completely new storefront facade was created for an elevated brand identity fitting to the stores location in Beverly Hills.
